Release date: June 1, 2024
In this captivating tale spun by Melissa B. Rooney and brought to life with enchanting illustrations by Jane Gabrielle, Larry's daily adventures unfurl against a current of human activity threatening to destroy his home. Larry survives the perilous waters with his friend Sally to secure a future for themselves and their fellow Logperch.
Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Roanoke, this book is a call to action that reminds us to protect our fragile ecosystems before they disappear forever.
Larry and Sally the Roanoke Logperch are the new champions for Roanoke River. Melissa B. Rooney and Jane Gabrielle creatively weave together dynamic lessons on fish anatomy, behavior, life history, river ecology, and the ways modern living (such as dams and roads) can adversely affect river health. The upshot is an engaging ecological primer for 3rd and 4th graders that concludes with positive actions readers can take to enhance environmental awareness and stewardship.

Books for a
Cause
Froward Press partners with non-profits to raise awareness for their causes within their communities.
By collaborating with grant writers, authors, and illustrators, we publish books that educate people about these organizations and their ongoing initiatives.
Our latest partnership resulted in the publication of "Larry the Roanoke Logperch," a book aimed at raising awareness about the endangered Roanoke Logperch. This title educates the local community on the life cycle of the logperch, as well as practices they can adopt to help keep waterways safe for this fish species.
For more information, contact Melissa Rooney Melissa@frowardpress.com
UPDATE: Since the release of Larry the Roanoke Logperch, this species has been removed from the endangered species list.
