Author Bio

Barbara Schlegel has been enriching the lives of children with yoga for the past 10 years, through her mobile yoga studio, Cat Cow Yoga. She has a master's degree in developmental psychology and is a certified children's yoga teacher and Ayurvedic lifestyle coach. This is her first book.

The details of the cankerworm's unique journey present an arching metaphor that parents, teachers, and caretakers will appreciate as they encourage children to be themselves - in all their glory, despite society’s history of imposing limitations based on assigned gender.

Melissa Rooney is a Second-Generation Immigrant, Southerner (VA and NC), and Woman in Science (Ph.D. Chemistry). She is the author of the Eddie the Electron picture book series and The Fate of The Frog, which won the Beverly Hills Children’s Fiction Award. Melissa offers workshops through the Culture and Arts in the Public Schools (CAPS) program. In addition to writing creatively, Melissa writes reviews for children’s and young-adult books for the New York Journal of Books, reviews Broadway shows and other performing arts productions for Triangle Theater Review, and provides scientific and literary editing services.

Since graduating from Ohio State University with a degree in Criminology, Stacy Fabbre has worked in various roles for Dublin City Schools, including Routing and Fiscal Specialist and Registrar. She is also a freelance writing instructor for the Thurber House in Columbus Ohio and the illustrator of several children’s books, including The Fate of the Frog, which won the Beverly Hills Children’s Fiction Award in 2018. After seven years of mentoring with the Big Brother Big Sister Foundation, Stacy now provides voluntary fundraising, advocacy, and marketing services for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and serves on a regional Social Justice Committee focusing on equality and inclusivity.


Children's Anthologies

We offer 6-class, virtual, or in-person writing residencies with participating published authors for elementary, middle, and high-school students. Our writers help students write their stories and become published authors. The residency concludes with a release party celebrating the published anthology of the students' stories.
